CAGIL ATAS DOGAN
Cagil Atas Dogan was born in Izmir, Turkey, in 1990. His life has been shaped by being part of an adventurous, artistic, multicultural family. His parents come from different ethnic cultures within Turkey, and when he moved to Canada with his parents at 3 years old, He had another multicultural situation and language to conquer. He has attended school in both Turkey and Canada, meeting the challenges of learning in both languages, giving him broader perspectives on issues in both countries.

He had the opportunity to work with many different media and techniques such as drawing, artist colour pencils, tempera, watercolour, acrylic, oils, sculpting, print making, digital art, photography, video from an early age, encouraged by his parents. He exhibited and sold his own art, using the proceeds to purchase equipment for his developing interest in art and film.

When he was younger he wanted to be an actor, so he took acting classes in Vancouver. He discovered that his years of artistic endeavors had equipped him with the vision to handle the whole process rather than limiting him to a single role.

2004 to 2008 - he has been privileged to attend Isilay Saygin Anatolian Fine Arts High School, whose purpose is to give budding artists the academic foundation to allow them to explore and create new art. This has given him a strong foundation in art history, esthetics, drawing, perspective, composition, colours, light, dark / light balance and graphics. He was the videographer for concerts, seminars, and school presentations so he gained experience with camera placement and angles, sound pick-up, lighting, capturing action, and troubleshooting.
Summer of 2006 and 2007 - he participated in the Pacific Cinematheque Summer Visions Film Institute for Youth in Vancouver, working with a team to produce a film from initial idea through script-writing, story-boarding, production planning, filming, sound recording and editing with Final Cut Pro.
He also attended camera tech workshop, storytelling workshop, scriptwriting / brainstorm session and script revisions, location scouting, production planning, acting / directing workshop with Jim Crescenzo, lighting and sound workshops and sound design at this program.
In 2007 - he worked one-on-one with a professional editor, Jonathan Tyrell, an Apple-certified instructor at Emily Carr College, to learn Final Cut Pro 6 and he had acting sessions with Misli Alan, who is writer, actor and an instructor.
December 2007 – June 2008 - produced a stop motion movie called “Huge Pea” with a partner.
2007 - shot a short movie called “Today’s Beauty”
2007 - completed illustrations for a book by Professor Doctor Hakan Coskunoglu entitled “Hyperactivity and Attention Deficit” using Photo shop with a Wacom pen tablet.
2006 – designed illustrations for a brochure on “Hyperactivity and Attention Deficit” published by a school for hyperactive kids
Summers of 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 - sold his watercolour paintings at Stanley Park artists corner

He has won honors in numerous art competitions through the years.
2008 Fine Arts High School Art Competition, Turkey – represented high school in this nationwide competition, won 3rd place.
2005 UNEP youth painting competition, Europe - placed 3rd
2004 Mon Ami Paint Company, Turkey – made into the top 10 out of 8,843 winning a computer and a certificate.

September 2008 he started studying Media Art at Sheridan College, at the same time he continuous to create art.
